Full of discoveries

Three Bachelor 3 students discovered Christian Laucou's typography and linocut workshop in Paris.

Before starting their third year of Bachelor, our students Manon Tullus, Jade Robert and Rhea Boustany participated this week in a typography and linocut workshop at Christian Laucou's studio in Paris. To make a typesetting composition in lead and A picture, they learned to use different forms and typographic means.

Thanks to this experience, our students became familiar with the manual aspects of printing, from text composition and illustration engraving to printing tests before finalizing their work. They share their impressions after this week full of discoveries:

Jade : “This week spent alongside Christian Laucou in his workshop was very beneficial to me. Indeed it was a cocktail of learning between linocut and lead typography. Beyond the pleasure I took in discovering these areas, I was able to put into practice the little knowledge I had on this ancient technique. More Christian was particularly kind, funny and educational without restricting us in our ideas. We had a great opportunity to evolve in his workshop and I thank him for this opportunity. »
Manon : "After a week of lead typography and linocuts with Christian Laucou, I have the brain that overflowing with discoveries, desires for experimentation and anecdotes of all kinds. This pedagogue and storyteller guided us throughout the project, alternating laugh and learn, for quality production. I felt like I was in a little bubble, a mysterious cave in which we live to the rhythm of printing rolls. His workshop is filled to bursting with wonders of all kinds, various anecdotes that this nice mustachioed will be happy to tell you. If you choose to do this internship (I can only recommend it), you will come out with a head full of ideas, a smile on her face and a furious desire to leave everything to do nothing but linocut.

Rhea : "During this week, I learned patience, discipline, and precision . I tried linocut printing for the first time, which I really enjoyed. It was satisfying to see my design take shape from the interplay of solid and void. I also composed texts, placing them letter by letter in a composing tray . It takes time, but I found it relaxing! And finally, seeing all these elements, composed separately, come together on a single sheet of paper was very satisfying and aesthetically pleasing. In short, I really enjoyed this workshop!"
